Reading might not be every kid's favorite thing to do, but there are some books that have enough drama or magic to hold their attention. 1) "La Gallina Turuleca y los Huevos Magico" 

This book is ideal for kids between the ages of 5 and 7 years old because it uses simple language and the story itself is easy to understand. It begins when a hen lays eggs that give wishes to everyone who touches them. Each chapter has no more than 10 pages so your child will not lose interest at any moment. This book can improve children's vocabulary by introducing words like egg, chicken, cooking, omelette, hungry, food, even magic. 

2) "Cuando el Mar se Hizo Tierra"

3) "El Gato con Botas" 

It is a version of the classic fairy tale called Puss in Boots. It is an easy to understand story written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It begins when a pilot who crash lands in the Sahara Desert. He meets a little prince who tells him about his life on an asteroid with his flower, three volcanoes and two large mountains. The little prince talks about how he has visited different planets where each planet stands for something. This book will help kids improve their vocabulary because it includes words like sun, desert, asteroids, volcanoes, mountains. 

5) "El Hombre de Arena" 

It's another version of the classic story known as The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen, written in Spanish and with some differences from the original story. It begins when a little girl named Maria lives with her ill grandmother and her mother in a poor house in Havana. They can barely afford to eat, and life is very hard for them. One night the child sees an ice-cream vendor pass by her house and she gives him all the money they had left to enjoy one ice-cream cone, but it melts quickly because of how hot it is. When she returns home, she discovers that godmother has died and is now at Heaven's gates. Maria is told that she can only enter if she brings a gift. Without hesitation, the child decides to sell matches so she can buy a flower for grandmother. Maria manages to sell all the matches and when she returns home with the flower, her father is there too after being released from jail. This book is perfect for kids because it includes words like hot, cold, ice cream, match.
